DAY 3

Free day at Sebatana. Optional Big Five and Night Safari

Day 3 Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Sebatana Game Reserve
Spend the day at leisure at Sebatana or choose from separately available safari experiences. An optional excursion to Welgevonden offers opportunities to look for the Big Five and other wildlife in a large private reserve, while an optional night safari departs from Rhino Lodge after dark. The evening drive may include a stop at Flintstone Cave for a three-course dinner by the fire, but all wildlife encounters remain dependent on natural conditions.

DAY 4

Nature Walk and optional Tribal Evening

Day 4 Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Sebatana Game Reserve
Following breakfast, we begin our guided wilderness trail. As we walk, your experienced guide will detail the unique characteristics of the Waterberg Mountains, focusing on the impressive fauna found south of the equator and the distinctive natural environment. You will gain fascinating insights into animal breeding and feeding grounds, providing a deeper understanding of the complex behaviours of the local antelope. In the evening, you have the optional of joining a private dinner hosted by our chef, offering a meaningful look into traditional African culture and lifestyle. This experience provides both historical context and a contemporary awareness of indigenous customs. You will have the opportunity to sample traditional food and beverages while learning about the enduring values and traditions that define the local community. The indigenous culture is often expressed through the vibrant mediums of song and dance. Tonight, local children and young adults will perform traditional dances that they have proudly preserved. These performers are part of a heritage foundation dedicated to protecting and celebrating local traditions, ensuring that this rich cultural legacy continues to flourish.

Activities

  • Guided Wilderness Walk in the Waterberg Mountains A guide who knows the Waterberg well leads you out after breakfast on a wilderness trail. Expect detail on the range itself, on breeding and feeding grounds, and on the antelope that shape this landscape.
  • Optional Traditional African Dinner A private dinner hosted by the chef, built around traditional dishes and drinks, is available as an optional extra. It comes with an honest account of the customs and values that bind the local community together.
  • Enjoy a Traditional Song and Dance Performance Children and young adults from a local heritage foundation perform the dances and songs they have kept alive. Music and movement carry much of the culture here, and the evening belongs to them.
Nature Walk and optional Tribal Evening
DAY 5

Free day. Optional Echoes of the past, hope for tomorrow tour

Day 5 Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Sebatana Game Reserve
Spend the day at leisure at Sebatana, with several optional activities available separately. A three-hour Kaingo photo safari may include wildlife tracking and, when conditions allow, time on the Mokolo River. Wildlife sightings, river access and classroom observations remain dependent on conditions and timing.

Activities

  • Optional Photo Safari at Kaingo Three optional hours at Kaingo with guides working to put you in front of the Big Five. When water levels and weather allow, part of the time is spent on the Mokolo River among hippo and crocodile.
  • Visit Sheep Rock Shelter and Pride Rock San rock paintings, stone tools and beads are on display at Sheep Rock Shelter, including the fat-tailed sheep symbolising healing and prosperity. Nearby Pride Rock spans every stage of the Stone Age.

Free day. Optional Echoes of the past, hope for tomorrow tour
DAY 6

Game Drive, Champagne Bush Brunch and Christinas Wallow

Day 6 Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Sebatana Game Reserve
The early morning hours offer the finest opportunity for close-range wildlife encounters. During this time, antelope traverse vast expanses in search of optimal grazing while remaining vigilant against predators such as leopards, hyenas, and caracals. We conduct these excursions in open Land Cruisers to provide unobstructed views and superior photographic possibilities. As the morning progresses, the safari concludes at Kudu Rock for a traditional and indulgent African Champagne Brunch. This lavish meal is served against the backdrop of a magnificent vista overlooking the expansive African bush. Following brunch, we return to the lodge, allowing you time to relax and contemplate the morning's sightings. In the afternoon, our guides will lead another exploration of the reserve. This outing includes a visit to one of our specialised hides; to minimise our impact on the environment, the final approach to the hide is made on foot. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this often results in remarkably close encounters with the local wildlife. The day concludes with a return to the lodge for another exceptional culinary experience.

Activities

  • Early Morning Game Drive at Sebatana Animals are closest to the vehicle in the first hours after dawn. Antelope graze widely while watching for leopard, hyena and caracal, and the open Land Cruiser puts nothing between you and the view.
  • Champagne Bush Brunch at Kudu Rock The morning drive concludes at Kudu Rock with a champagne brunch served above a wide view over the bush. Take your time before returning to the lodge for the middle of the day.
  • Afternoon Safari and Photographic Hide Visit The afternoon is spent in one of the reserve's purpose-built hides, reached on foot to keep disturbance to a minimum. The approach on foot often brings wildlife remarkably close.
Game Drive, Champagne Bush Brunch and Christinas Wallow
DAY 7

Optional Kaingo Big 5 safari. Included afternoon safari to Sunset Rock

Day 7 Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner Sebatana Game Reserve
You are invited to join an optional excursion through a wilderness of exceptional scenic beauty. This African Eden is situated within the malaria-free Waterberg region, neighbouring Sebatana. The reserve is a protected area with a critical biodiversity 1 classification and serves as a core component of the UNESCO-declared Waterberg Biosphere. These dedicated preservation efforts ensure that this breathtaking landscape remains intact for future generations. Spanning more than 16,000 hectares of bushveld savannah, rivers, valleys, and majestic mountain terrains, the reserve represents a piece of Africa in its most pristine form. It offers unique wildlife encounters, conservation initiatives, and research activities alongside an abundance of natural landmarks. With the mighty Mokolo River weaving through the heart of the landscape, the area is home to over 60 mammal species and more than 250 bird species, including the Big Five. This extraordinary ecological diversity provides a nature experience rooted in a "conservation first" philosophy, where all tourism proceeds are reinvested into positive environmental efforts. Sebatana is proud to provide our guests with exclusive and unique access to this remarkable territory. During the journey, we will make a scenic stop along the banks of the Mokolo River, where guides will serve refreshments and allow time for photography against the magical backdrop of the flowing water. In the mid-afternoon, the adventure continues with another spectacular included safari culminating at Sunset Rock. Frequently described by former guests as an absolute highlight of the entire tour, this location offers the perfect vantage point to enjoy a glass of chilled champagne as the sun descends behind the Waterberg Mountains in a vibrant cascade of red and orange hues. Amidst this grandiose landscape, you may find that time seems to stand still. Following the sunset, we return to the lodge where the talented chefs will have another culinary feast prepared for your arrival.

Activities

  • Optional Big Five Safari at Kaingo in the Waterberg Biosphere A day in the neighbouring reserve, 16,000 hectares of bushveld, river and mountain within the UNESCO-declared Waterberg Biosphere, can be taken as an optional extra. Over 60 mammal species and 250 birds live here, including the Big Five.
  • Refreshment Stop by the Mokolo River The guides pull up on the banks of the Mokolo River and set out refreshments. There is time to photograph the water and the surrounding bush before the journey continues.
  • Afternoon Safari to Sunset Rock The mid-afternoon drive ends at Sunset Rock with chilled champagne in hand. The sun drops behind the Waterberg Mountains in red and orange; past guests call it the highlight of the week.
Optional Kaingo Big 5 safari. Included afternoon safari to Sunset Rock
DAY 8

Transfer to Johannesburg Airport for departure. With brief Johannesburg tour

Day 8 Breakfast N/A
After enjoying a traditional English breakfast and perhaps a final swim in the dipping pool, the time arrives for one of the most difficult moments of the journey: bidding a fond farewell to Sebatana before setting off for a brief city tour and a poignant visit to the Apartheid Museum. Most of the remaining time is spent travelling between the named places, with the surroundings changing along the way.

Activities

  • Transfer from Sebatana to Johannesburg Airport After a traditional English breakfast and a last swim in the dipping pool, you bid farewell to Sebatana and travel back south towards Johannesburg.
  • Explore Johannesburg on a City Tour A brief city tour of Johannesburg breaks the journey to the airport. It is a quick look at the urban landscape before your flight home.
  • Visit the Apartheid Museum The Apartheid Museum fills your last hours in South Africa, tracing the rise and fall of the system through film, photography and personal testimony. It brings the trip to a sobering close.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why book the Sebatana Game Reserve tour?
Sebatana Game Reserve is an 8-day, 7-night luxury Big Five safari based at a single 5-star lodge in the malaria-free Waterberg region, a UNESCO-declared biosphere north of Johannesburg. You stay at one of Sebatana's three premier lodges (Rhino, Elephant or Lion Lodge), travel on 4 included game drives in open Land Cruisers, join a guided bush walk and wildlife talk, enjoy a traditional African Champagne Brunch and a champagne sunset at Sunset Rock, and finish with a Johannesburg city tour and Apartheid Museum visit. Game drive groups are capped at 10 and the package is full board throughout.
Is this tour suitable for first-time safari-goers?
Absolutely. The week starts with an introductory wildlife talk on Day 2, where your guide briefs you on the mammals, birds and flora you are likely to encounter, and every activity is led by a fully qualified safari guide. Because you unpack once and stay at the same lodge for 7 nights, there is none of the packing and moving that comes with multi-stop safaris, which makes it a very relaxed introduction to the African bush.
How does this differ from an overland South Africa safari?
This is a stay-put luxury safari rather than a road trip. You are transferred from Johannesburg to Sebatana on Day 1 and remain there until Day 8, with game drives, walks and optional excursions radiating out from the lodge. Multi-country overland tours such as our Kruger, eSwatini and Lesotho itinerary cover far more ground but involve long driving days and changing accommodation every night or two. If you want depth in one exceptional reserve, with 5-star comfort and full board, Sebatana is the better fit.
What's the best time of year to do this tour?
The Waterberg is a year-round safari destination and the package runs on fixed departure dates throughout the year. Current scheduled departures fall in late June and mid July, which is the dry southern-hemisphere winter, when vegetation is thinner and animals gather around water, making game viewing excellent. Early mornings on open vehicles can be cold at this time of year, so bring warm layers. The region is malaria-free in every season.
Why does this tour cost what it does?
We get it, you can find cheaper South Africa safaris. What you are paying for here is 7 nights at a 5-star private game reserve on a full-board basis, with 4 game drives in open Land Cruisers limited to 10 guests per vehicle, a guided bush walk, a wildlife talk, a Champagne Brunch at Kudu Rock, a champagne sunset at Sunset Rock, a Johannesburg city tour with the Apartheid Museum, and airport transfers both ways. Priced from GBP 1499 or US$2095 per person, it is strong value for a week of luxury safari with almost all meals included.
What's actually included in the price?
Included are 7 nights at one of Sebatana's 5-star lodges (Rhino, Elephant or Lion Lodge), full board with breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout, 4 game drives in open vehicles, the wildlife talk, the Traditional African Champagne Brunch, champagne and sunset at Sunset Rock, a guided bush walk, the Johannesburg city tour and Apartheid Museum visit, and return transfers between O.R. Tambo International Airport and the reserve.
What's NOT included and how much extra should I budget?
Not included are international flights (available on request), visa fees if required, travel insurance (compulsory), any meals not indicated in the itinerary, drinks, snacks and personal expenses such as laundry, tipping, and optional activities such as the Welgevonden Big Five tour, the night safari with Flintstone Cave dinner, the tribal evening, the Kaingo photo safari and heritage tour, and the Kaingo Big Five safari. Your guide will brief current amounts for tips and optional excursions at the start of the tour.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. Secure your place with a deposit or use the reserve-now-pay-later option through the Dates & Prices tab. The full balance is due 8 weeks before departure.
How physically demanding is this tour?
This is an easy-paced tour. Game drives are conducted from open Land Cruisers, so the main physical demands are climbing in and out of a high vehicle and sitting on bumpy bush tracks. The guided wilderness trail on Day 4 and the short walk to the wildlife hide on Day 6 are gentle, guide-led walks. Days 3 and 5 are free days, so you can rest by the pool if you prefer.
What if I'm older than the rest of the group?
Sebatana is well suited to older travellers. There is no nightly packing, the lodges are 5-star with air conditioning, pools and jacuzzis, and most of the week is spent in a vehicle or at the lodge rather than on foot. The guided bush walk is optional in practice and your guide can adjust the pace. If you have any concerns about vehicle access or the early morning drives, contact us before booking.
What if I have mobility issues or a medical condition?
Open safari vehicles require stepping up into a high seat, and the reserve's viewpoints such as Kudu Rock and Sunset Rock involve uneven ground. The lodges themselves are comfortable and easy to move around. If you have significant mobility limitations, contact us before booking so we can check what is feasible with the reserve.
Is South Africa safe to visit right now?
South Africa is a well-established tourist destination and private game reserves such as Sebatana are secure, self-contained environments. You are met at O.R. Tambo International Airport by a Sebatana representative and transferred directly to the reserve, and the only city time is the guided Johannesburg tour and Apartheid Museum visit on Day 8. Standard urban precautions apply in Johannesburg. Check your government's current travel advice before departure.
Is it safe for women travelling solo?
Yes. You spend the entire week within a private reserve, on guided activities with a maximum of 10 guests per vehicle, and transfers are arranged door to door. Solo women regularly join our South Africa safaris, and the small-group lodge setting makes it easy to meet fellow travellers while feeling secure.
Are the animals dangerous on game drives and bush walks?
Every safari activity is led by a fully qualified safari guide, and game drives use open Land Cruisers with a skilled local tracker on board. On the guided wilderness trail and the approach to the hide you stay with your guide and follow their instructions at all times. The risk from wildlife is carefully managed, which is what makes a walking safari such a memorable experience.
What happens if I get sick on tour?
Your guide can direct you to medical assistance and the reserve is within reach of Johannesburg, which has excellent hospitals. Importantly, the Waterberg is a malaria-free region, so no antimalarial medication is needed for this itinerary. Comprehensive travel insurance with medical cover and emergency evacuation is compulsory.
What's the accommodation actually like?
You stay 7 nights at Sebatana Private Game Reserve in one of three 5-star lodges: Rhino Lodge, Elephant Lodge or Lion Lodge, all offering a similar standard. Rooms are elegantly designed with air conditioning, plush bedding, en-suite bathrooms with deep-soaking bathtubs and private balconies overlooking the wilderness or river. Facilities include outdoor pools and jacuzzis, sun decks, communal lounges and traditional bomas where dinner is served under the stars.
Which lodge will I stay in?
You will be allocated to Rhino Lodge, Elephant Lodge or Lion Lodge, all within the 5,000-hectare Sebatana reserve and all offering comparable 5-star accommodation and facilities. The specific lodge is confirmed by the reserve nearer to departure. Guided activities run from the lodges each day, and the wildlife talk and night safari depart from Rhino Lodge.
Will I have Wi-Fi?
The lodges are high-end properties and connectivity is generally available, though speeds in the bush can be slower than in a city hotel. Treat the week as a chance to disconnect a little; download anything you need before you leave Johannesburg.
Can I upgrade my room?
All rooms are twin or double en-suite with air conditioning, and couples are automatically given a private double room. The main upgrade is a private single room for solo travellers, available via the Single Room Supplement option at booking. Contact our sales team if you have specific requests for the reserve.
What kind of food will we eat?
The package is full board, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included every day at the lodge, prepared by accomplished chefs. Highlights include the Traditional African Champagne Brunch at Kudu Rock overlooking the bush on Day 6, champagne at Sunset Rock on Day 7, dinners in the traditional boma under the stars, and a traditional English breakfast on your final morning. Optional extras include a three-course firelit dinner at Flintstone Cave and a private chef-hosted dinner of traditional African dishes.
Can you cater for vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free diets?
Please tell us about any dietary requirements when you book. We are always willing to look at them and, where possible, we will do our best to accommodate you, although we cannot guarantee that every restaurant, hotel or boat on the route will be able to meet every need. Your guide will also help you find suitable options along the way.
Is it safe to drink the water?
Tap water is generally safe to drink in South Africa, and the lodges provide drinking water. If you prefer not to rely on tap water, we recommend bringing a Water-to-Go filter bottle for convenience and to reduce plastic waste. Use code ENCOUNTERS25 for 25% off.
Is this trip good for solo travellers?
Yes. The small group size (minimum 2, maximum 10 per game drive vehicle) and the shared lodge setting make it easy to get to know your fellow guests over meals, sundowners and game drives. Transfers are arranged from the airport, so there is no solo logistics to worry about. Please check the Single Room Supplement option for details on room sharing and single room charges.
Do I have to share a room?
Accommodation is based on twin or double en-suite rooms. If you book a solo place and are willing to share, we will try to pair you with a same-gender solo traveller; if no match is available, or if you prefer your own room, the Single Room Supplement applies. Full details are shown under the Single Room Supplement option when booking.
What's the group size and who else will be on the trip?
Minimum 2, maximum 10. Game drives within Sebatana are strictly limited to 10 passengers per open vehicle so everyone gets an unobstructed view, though airport transfer vehicles may carry more guests depending on flight arrivals. Guests are a mix of couples, friends and solo travellers from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, and the lodge is shared with other Sebatana guests.
Can I book this as a private tour?
Yes. Private departures can be arranged, and because the tour is based at a single reserve with fixed transfers, it is straightforward to tailor dates and add or remove optional excursions. Contact us for a quotation.
Is this tour suitable for kids?
No minimum age is specified for this tour. The stay-put format, pools and short activity durations make it more family-friendly than long overland safaris, and the Waterberg is malaria-free, which is a real advantage for children. Night safaris and bush walks may have age restrictions set by the reserve, so contact us to discuss before booking if you are travelling with children.
Do I need a visa for South Africa?
Most nationalities, including UK, EU, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, do not require a visa for South Africa for stays under 90 days. Check the current requirements for your specific nationality well before departure, as rules can change, and make sure your passport has sufficient validity and blank pages.
What should I pack?
Pack neutral, dull-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, brown, stone) for game drives and avoid bright colours. Bring warm layers, a beanie and a windproof jacket for early morning and evening drives in open vehicles, especially on the June and July departures, plus lighter clothes for the middle of the day. Comfortable closed walking shoes for the bush walk, swimwear for the pool and jacuzzi, a sun hat, sunscreen, binoculars and a camera with a good zoom are all worth having.
Are any vaccinations or malaria tablets required?
The Waterberg is a malaria-free region, so no antimalarials are needed for this itinerary. For South Africa generally, Hepatitis A is the main additional vaccination recommended. A Yellow Fever certificate may be required if you arrive from or transit through an infected area. Consult your GP or travel clinic for current personalised advice.
Do I need to book international flights through you?
No, international flights are not included, though we can arrange them on request. You fly into and out of O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. A Sebatana representative meets you on arrival on Day 1 and you are transferred back to the airport on Day 8 after the Johannesburg city tour and Apartheid Museum visit, so allow for an evening departure on the final day.
What about tipping?
Tipping is customary in South Africa and is not included in the tour price. Safari guides, trackers and lodge staff are usually tipped at the end of your stay, and many lodges have a communal staff box. Amounts are always at your discretion; your guide will brief current suggested amounts at the start of the tour.
Can I do the Welgevonden Big Five tour and night safari?
Yes. On the free day on Day 3 you can join an optional excursion to Welgevonden, a neighbouring UNESCO-protected private reserve spanning over 40,000 hectares with more than 50 mammal species including the Big Five. In the evening an optional night safari departs from Rhino Lodge in spotlight-equipped Land Cruisers to look for leopard, caracal, bush baby, porcupine and antbear, stopping at Flintstone Cave for a three-course dinner by the fire.
What is the Echoes of the Past, Hope for Tomorrow tour?
This optional Day 5 excursion combines a three-hour photo safari at Kaingo tracking the Big Five (with a Mokolo River cruise to see hippos and crocodiles when water levels allow), a visit to the Sheep Rock Shelter and Pride Rock to see San rock paintings and Stone Age tools, and a guided visit to The Fold, a children's home and school run by New Road Missions about 30 minutes from Sebatana.
Can I join the tribal evening?
Yes. On Day 4 there is an optional private dinner hosted by the lodge chef, featuring traditional African food and beverages and an insight into local customs. Local children and young adults from a heritage foundation perform traditional song and dance during the evening.
Can I add the Kaingo Big Five safari on Day 7?
Yes. The optional morning excursion on Day 7 takes you into Kaingo, a neighbouring malaria-free reserve of more than 16,000 hectares within the Waterberg Biosphere, home to over 60 mammal species and 250 bird species including the Big Five, with a refreshment stop on the banks of the Mokolo River. It is separate from the included afternoon safari to Sunset Rock, which everyone joins.
Can I add extra time in Johannesburg or combine this with another tour?
Yes. Extra nights in Johannesburg before or after the safari can be arranged, and Sebatana works well as a luxury safari add-on to our other South Africa tours such as Kruger, eSwatini and Lesotho. Contact us for options and current availability.
How far ahead should I book?
Sebatana runs on fixed departure dates with limited space per departure, and some dates already have only a handful of places remaining. Book as early as possible, ideally several months ahead, particularly for the June and July dry-season departures.
How does booking work?
Reserve online through the Dates & Prices tab. Pay a deposit or hold your spot with the reserve-now-pay-later option, with the balance due 8 weeks before departure. Select the Single Room Supplement at the time of booking if you want your own room, and let us know any dietary requirements.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Travel insurance is compulsory on all Encounters Travel tours and must cover medical expenses, emergency evacuation and repatriation. Check that your policy covers safari activities including game drives and guided bush walks. World Nomads Travel Insurance covers over 150 activities and is one option worth considering.
What's your cancellation policy?
Cancellation charges apply on a sliding scale depending on how far in advance you cancel. Full details are in the booking conditions. All bookings are financially protected through Trust My Travel, a UK-registered financial protection scheme.
What if my dates are sold out?

My boyfriend and I and just returned from a South African trip booked by Encounters Travel. Awesome travel experience. Encounters handled everything from our flights to our hotel bookings. The flights that were booked were the best flights with the shortest times and layovers. All of our hotels were at least a 4 start some 5 stars. Every time I emailed the company I heard back from someone within about 24 hours. I would book and travel with them again.

Second trip with Encounters ... First one was good but Egypt was very professional. What an amazing experience. Arriving in Egypt at 3.45 a.m. (their local time), there was this guy with a HUGE smile and an Encounters sign ... MOHAMED KHALIFA. He escorted us through customs and took us to our hotel and settled us in with a very early check in. He went over our iternary and suggested some additional add-on. You immediately realize you are in good hands. Mohamed Khalifa you are exceptional.
Then there were our tour guides. The City Tour we did with Big Mo and the rest of the tour with SHERIFF. Sheriff is really an excellent guide. Our walking Encyclopedia of Egyptian History. His passion, sense of humor, his willingness to accommodate individuals and a fantastic person to hang out with. The tour guides made sure that their guest had a memorable experience. We love you GROUP Cccccccccccccccc.
Hats off to our drivers. Traffic is really insane in Cairo. You have to see it to believe it. But they are really professional at navigating through traffic.
SAFETY ... We never felt UNSAFE at any given time. We always had a guide and even had a guard walking with us. We were given time to do our own thing, shopping, take pictures and just chill. You weren't even aware of the guard but they were watching you. There is no crime ... one lady took a walk by herself after 10 the evening to have supper in a restaurant.
Lastly the PEOPLE of Egypt. They rely on Tourism to make a living. So yes, they hassle you all the time but they don't harass or threaten you in anyway. They can be annoying but otherwise friendly especially when they heard we were from South Africa. Then they would go BAFANA BAFANA.
Best way to see Egypt is with ENCOUNTERS TRAVEL ... they are professional, committed and organized not forgetting Mariska. This is the perfect way to see Egypt with all its history ... that way you don't miss out on anything.
Overall AMAZING experience. Will I do it again? .... YES.

I can really recommend to book a trip through ENCOUNTERS TRAVEL. Stumbled across them by accident when i was searching the net for best prices. Being from South Africa with the weak ZAR they came out tops. Booked the 10 day Anatolian Adventure. All entrance fees was included. Thanks to Mariska for always getting back to me immediately. The tour surpassed my expectations and the accommodation provided was mostly 5 star. The tour guide Ilker (from Fez Travel) was amazing. He was very informative and not forgetting our good driver Irfaan. We had a small group of 10. Overall, a great trip. Worth every penny. Will definitely book my next trip through ENCOUNTERS TRAVEL

I toured South Africa with Encounters Travel in February 2013. I am glad that I took the trip. The two guides were great. They were very friendly and knowledgeable and made everyone feel comfortable. The accomodations were excellent. The planned activities were fun and informative. I would definitely use Encounters Travel again for a trip.

I got a Living Social announcement for North American travelers for a 1 week South African tour with a 50% discount. All the group joined in the same manner. I am not sure what the regular price would have been for this Garden Tour so I cannot discuss the deal.

I could tell that the Encounters organization is very reliable. The preparation pamphlet is extremely important as it seems to describe the worse scenario one may encounter in adventure trip, and sets travelers to an easy going attitude and expectations. Everyone in my group cooperates to eventual restrictions in the community with maturity and a good sense of humour.

We run into no problem at all except an unannounced dowgrade in the 1st hotel. Lodging and food were very good. We were several to suggest less driving, at least some nights in Cape Town and more visits in thi Garden Tour.

As I come from Canada, I suggested a longer tour even though I may have to pay more. So I arranged myself extension of the stay (before and after the Tour) as I did not have enough of safari, artifact shopping in South Africa. The booking office in England would assist you to prolong your stay.

In particular, the Encounter Travel booking desk from England are very reliable, available and helpful. I trusted them fully and were not dissapointed at all. Thank you Anthony and your team !

Accommodation

The hotels and accommodations listed below are the ones we most often use on this tour. From time to time we may exchange these for similar properties at the same level.

Options

Our tours are designed to include all that you need to enjoy a really special time in the country you're visiting. However, we do also offer some extra options to complement the tour and add some additional sightseeing or activities, or some extra time at either end of the tour.

All accommodation based options (e.g. Single supplements, extra nights, upgrades) should be booked and paid for in advance so that we can make the appropriate arrangements. Most other options can be booked and paid for in advance or while you are on the tour, though we recommend booking in advance to ensure there are no issues with availability.

Most options are priced the same throughout the year, though some may have seasonal pricing or minimum number requirements - our sales team will advise the final pricing based on your travel date and number of passengers on your booking.
