Gateway to the Everest Region

Day 2 Breakfast
Take the mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and begin trekking after arrival. The trail to Phakding follows the lower Khumbu through valleys, settlements and paths beside the river, providing a relatively gentle first stage before the higher climbs begin. The combination of flight and initial trek brings you quickly from Nepal’s capital into the Everest region and establishes the routine for the coming days.

Activities

  • Kathmandu → Lukla Experience an exhilarating mountain flight to Lukla. This short journey marks the official start of your trek into the Everest region.
  • Lukla → Phakding Trek gently downhill toward Phakding along the Dudh Kosi River. The route offers a relaxed pace to ease into the trail.

DAY 3

Ascent to Namche Bazaar

Day 3 Meals TBC
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar along one of the best-known sections of the Everest trail. The path follows the river, crosses several suspension bridges and passes through wooded valleys before the final climb into Namche. Arrival in this important Sherpa settlement marks a significant gain in altitude and brings you to a key base for acclimatisation in the Khumbu.

Activities

  • Trek Phakding → Namche Bazaar Follow the valley into Sagarmatha National Park before climbing steadily to Namche Bazaar. The ascent is challenging but rewarded with your first mountain panoramas.
Ascent to Namche Bazaar
DAY 4

Acclimatisation & Free Time in Namche Bazaar

Day 4 Meals TBC
Remain in Namche Bazaar for a rest and acclimatisation day before continuing deeper into the Everest region. The schedule is deliberately flexible, giving you time to recover or explore the town and nearby paths at a gentle pace. Namche’s markets, businesses and mountain setting reflect its importance to local communities and trekkers, while the pause in ascent supports gradual adjustment before the trail climbs higher.

Activities

  • Namche Bazaar Spend a full day acclimatising in Namche Bazaar. Explore shops, cafés, and local viewpoints while allowing your body to adjust to higher altitude.
Acclimatisation & Free Time in Namche Bazaar
DAY 5

Trek to Thengboche Monastery

Day 5 Meals TBC
This collection follows a classic Himalayan trekking route from Namche Bazaar toward the spiritual heart of the Khumbu region. The trail traverses high ridges with expansive mountain views before descending and climbing again through forested valleys. Along the way, the landscape opens to iconic Himalayan peaks that frame the journey. Arrival in Thengboche brings you to a small settlement centered around its renowned monastery, an important place of worship for the Sherpa community. The day blends natural grandeur with spiritual significance as the trek continues deeper into the Everest region.

Activities

  • Namche Bazaar → Thengboche Descend through forests before making a demanding climb toward Thengboche. The monastery and surrounding peaks provide an unforgettable arrival scene.
Trek to Thengboche Monastery
DAY 6

High Valley Trek to Dingboche

Day 6 Meals TBC
Trek from Thengboche to Dingboche and move into higher, more exposed country as vegetation becomes less dense. The path passes rivers, small communities and cultivated stone-walled fields before reaching the broad valley around Dingboche. Arrival places you significantly higher in the Khumbu and provides a base for continued acclimatisation before the trek proceeds towards the more severe alpine environments above.

Activities

  • Thengboche → Dingboche Trek through woodland and Sherpa villages as the landscape grows more rugged. Enter the Imja Valley and approach Dingboche with towering peaks around you.
High Valley Trek to Dingboche
DAY 7

Dingboche Acclimatization and High Mountain Rest

Day 7 Meals TBC
Use the day in Dingboche to rest and acclimatise before continuing to higher elevations. The schedule remains flexible, with time available for recovery or gentle exploration around the village depending on how you feel. The wide valley, traditional fields and surrounding Himalayan peaks provide plenty of scenery while the slower pace supports the gradual adjustment required for the next stages of the trek.

Activities

  • Dingboche Use this vital acclimatisation day to rest or take optional high-elevation walks. Stunning views surround the village and make the downtime rewarding.
Dingboche Acclimatization and High Mountain Rest
DAY 8

Trek to Lobuche in the Upper Khumbu

Day 8 Meals TBC
This collection continues the ascent through the high altitude terrain of the Everest region, moving deeper into the upper Khumbu valley. The trek from Dingboche to Lobuche follows open alpine landscapes shaped by glaciers, wind, and rock. Passing memorials dedicated to climbers reflects the mountaineering history tied to this route. The environment becomes increasingly stark as vegetation thins and mountain views dominate the horizon. Arrival in Lobuche marks another key stage of acclimatization and preparation for the highest sections of the trek.

Activities

  • Dingboche → Lobuche Climb gradually through the valley toward Dughla before ascending the Thokla Pass. Continue along the glacial moraine to reach Lobuche.
Trek to Lobuche in the Upper Khumbu
DAY 9

Everest Base Camp Approach and High Altitude Traverse

Day 9 Meals TBC
Leave Lobuche and trek to Gorak Shep before continuing towards Everest Base Camp along the Khumbu Glacier. The terrain is rocky and exposed, with moraines and ice formations dominating the scenery at this elevation. Time at Base Camp provides a close look at the environment used by climbing expeditions during summit seasons, after which you retrace your steps to Gorak Shep for the end of the day.

Activities

  • Lobuche → Gorak Shep Follow the Khumbu Glacier toward Gorak Shep, the last settlement before Everest Base Camp. The terrain becomes rocky and dramatic as you approach.
  • Gorak Shep → Everest Base Camp → Gorak Shep Hike to Everest Base Camp, celebrating the achievement of reaching this iconic point. After time to enjoy the surroundings, return to Gorak Shep for the night.

DAY 10

Kala Patthar Summit and Descent to Dughla

Day 10 Meals TBC
Leave Gorak Shep for the ascent of Kala Patthar and tackle the steep climb at high altitude before reaching the viewpoint above the valley. Mountain visibility depends on weather conditions, but the location is renowned for its perspective on Everest and the surrounding peaks. After descending from Kala Patthar, continue down to Dughla, easing the altitude after several demanding days in the upper Khumbu.

Activities

  • Gorak Shep → Kala Patthar → Dughla Ascend Kala Patthar for breathtaking views of Everest at sunrise. Then descend through rugged scenery toward Dughla for overnight rest.
Kala Patthar Summit and Descent to Dughla
DAY 11

Descent Through the Upper Khumbu to Pangboche

Day 11 Meals TBC
Trek from Dughla to Pangboche and descend from the upper reaches of the Khumbu into a more settled mountain environment. The path retraces sections of the Everest trekking corridor and passes through terrain that becomes increasingly varied as altitude decreases. Reaching Pangboche brings you to one of the older Sherpa communities in the region, set beneath the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Activities

  • Dughla → Pangboche Continue the descent as breathing grows easier and scenery shifts dramatically. Reach Pangboche, a peaceful Sherpa village surrounded by high peaks.
Descent Through the Upper Khumbu to Pangboche
DAY 12

Pangboche to Namche Bazaar Trek

Day 12 Meals TBC
Trek from Pangboche to Namche Bazaar and continue the descent through the Khumbu. The path passes through familiar forest and river landscapes, but the lower altitude creates a noticeably different atmosphere from the upper mountain stages. Reaching Namche brings renewed access to the services and busier village environment of the region’s main hub after time spent deeper in the Himalayas.

Activities

  • Trek Pangboche → Namche Bazaar Descend toward Namche Bazaar, passing familiar viewpoints now seen from a new angle. Enjoy returning comforts like cafés and warm showers.
Pangboche to Namche Bazaar Trek
DAY 13

Final Trek Back to Lukla

Day 13 Meals TBC
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla on the final walking day in the Khumbu, descending through forested valleys and crossing suspension bridges as you return towards the region's main air gateway. Villages and river crossings provide familiar landmarks along the way, and arrival in Lukla completes the mountain trek before the onward flight back towards Kathmandu.

Activities

  • Namche Bazaar → Lukla Make the long final trek back to Lukla, retracing forested paths and suspension bridges. Celebrate the completion of your Everest Base Camp journey.

Once back in Kathmandu, the rest of the day is free, allowing you to recover, revisit familiar areas or make independent plans after time spent on the trail.

Activities

  • Lukla → Kathmandu Fly back to Kathmandu and return to city life after days in the mountains. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon with optional city exploration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why book the Everest Base Camp tour?
Everest Base Camp is our 15-day, lodge-based trek that gets you face-to-face with the world's highest mountain. You hike from Lukla (2,800m) up through the Khumbu valley to Base Camp itself (5,364m), with a final dawn climb to Kala Patthar for the best Everest view there is. Sensible pace, two compulsory acclimatisation days at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, IPPG-protected porters carrying your main bag, local Nepali trekking guides, and warm lodges every night. Free trekking pack hire (down jacket and sleeping bag) is included, which is normally a paid extra.
Is this trek suitable for first-time trekkers in Nepal?
Honestly, this one isn't an entry-level trek. We grade it DIFFICULT, which means we expect you to have done multi-day trekking before and to come properly prepared. If this is your first big hike, the Annapurna foothills or our Classic Nepal itinerary will set you up better. That said, if you're fit, motivated and willing to train, plenty of first-time Nepal trekkers do complete it. Get in touch and we'll be straight with you about whether it fits.
What's the difference between this and the Classic Everest tour?
Everest Base Camp (15 days) flies you between Kathmandu and Lukla, so you start the trek high. Classic Everest (19 days) skips the Lukla flight and trekks in via Salleri and Phakding, which gives you better acclimatisation, more remote villages, and removes one of Nepal's most weather-prone flights. If you've got the days and want the deeper version, Classic Everest is the bigger experience.
What's the best time of year to do this trek?
Our preferred months are late September, October-November (peak season, with clear skies, busiest trails, expedition season at Base Camp in spring), and March-April. We avoid mid-June to August (monsoon, muddy trails, landslide risk) and January-February (extreme cold, snow). Late September is a sweet spot, quieter than October, cheaper flights, the monsoon ending. May tends to be the warmest but can be cloudy.
Why does this tour cost what it does?
We sit at the well-supported end of the EBC market without cutting corners on safety. Your price covers 2 nights in a 3-star Kathmandu hotel, 12 nights in trekking lodges, the return Kathmandu-Lukla flights (a significant cost on their own if booked separately), trekking permits, your guide and porters (paid above local average per IPPG guidelines), 24-hour airport transfers, and free trekking pack hire. Cheap EBC trips usually under-pay porters or skimp on guide ratios. We don't.
What's actually included in the price?
All accommodation (2 nights approx. 3-star hotel in Kathmandu, 12 nights in trekking lodges), 24-hour airport arrival and departure transfers, return domestic flights between Kathmandu and Lukla (including the Ramechhap drive if needed), trekking permits and conservation area fees, a fully trained English-speaking Nepali trekking guide, porters carrying your main bag, free trekking pack hire (down jacket and sleeping bag), tips for drivers, and the meals listed (2 breakfasts in Kathmandu).
What's NOT included, and how much extra should I budget?
You'll need to budget for your meals on the trek (breakfasts, lunches and dinners ordered from the lodges as you go). Your guide will brief typical current costs at the start. You'll also need tips for your guide and porters at the end of the trek. We'll suggest appropriate current amounts. International flights, Nepal visa fees, travel insurance with high-altitude evacuation cover, drinks, snacks and personal expenses are all separate. Hot showers at lodges are a small extra fee paid locally.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. You can hold a reservation, pay a deposit, or pay in full at booking. Full balance is due 8 weeks before departure. Reserve now and pay later is fine if you want to lock in dates while you sort flights or training.
How physically demanding is this trek really?
We grade it DIFFICULT. You'll trek 5-8 hours a day for around 11 days, at altitudes from 2,652m up to 5,364m at Base Camp and higher still at Kala Patthar. Some days are long, some climbs are steep, and the altitude makes every step harder than it would be at home. You should be able to comfortably walk 6-8 hours a day carrying a daypack, and ideally have done multi-day trekking before. We send a simple training guide and a fitness questionnaire after booking to help you prepare.
What if I'm older than the rest of the group?
Age isn't the issue. Fitness, attitude and acclimatisation are. We've had travellers in their 60s complete the trek and travellers in their 30s have to turn back. Statistically, older trekkers are slightly more affected by altitude, but the most important things are your overall health, the training you put in beforehand, and your willingness to listen to your guide. Get in touch if you'd like an honest conversation about whether it's the right call for you.
What if I have a medical condition?
Be upfront with us at booking. People with serious heart disease should not visit high altitudes, and people with mild heart issues, high or low blood pressure, asthma or diabetes should clear it with their doctor first and follow their advice. Your insurance also needs to cover the altitudes reached on this trek (over 5,000m). We'd rather help you choose a lower-altitude option than push you onto a trek that puts you at risk.
How do you handle altitude sickness?
Seriously, and with no shortcuts. Two acclimatisation days are built into the itinerary at Namche Bazaar (3,446m) and Dingboche (4,410m) and they are not optional. You cannot skip them to shorten the trek. Your guide checks on you throughout. Mild symptoms (headache, breathlessness, poor sleep) are normal above 3,000m. If symptoms get worse you must stop ascending; if they don't improve, you descend. Your guide has final say on whether you continue, and ignoring that advice means leaving the tour. Severe altitude sickness is entirely preventable if these rules are followed.
Is the Kathmandu-Lukla flight safe?
The flight is the most weather-dependent part of the trip. We're upfront about this: all Nepalese domestic airlines are on the EU's list of carriers banned from EU airspace, so we choose operators with the strongest current safety reputation in Nepal. Flights are also frequently delayed or cancelled due to weather, which is why we strongly recommend adding at least one extra Kathmandu night post-tour, and booking flexible international flights. During busy periods flights may run from Ramechhap (a 4-hour drive from Kathmandu, included in the price) which has a better weather window.
Is Nepal safe to visit right now?
Yes. Nepal welcomes hundreds of thousands of trekkers a year and the Khumbu region is one of the most well-trodden trekking routes in the world. Our local team monitors conditions continuously. The biggest risks on this trek aren't political or criminal. They're altitude and weather, both of which we manage carefully.
Is it safe for women travelling solo?
Yes. We host solo female trekkers on most departures. You'll be with a small group capped at 12, two local guides on larger groups, and porters throughout. Nepali trekking culture is welcoming and trekking lodges are family-run. Same-sex room sharing applies in lodges (couples share). Plenty of women complete EBC on their own with us every year.
What happens in a medical emergency at altitude?
If altitude symptoms get worse despite rest, the rule is descend immediately. Your guide will accompany you and one of our porters or a second guide will stay with you. For severe cases, helicopter evacuation is the last resort and must be covered by your insurance (check your policy covers up to 5,500m+ for this trek). Don't wait for a helicopter if you can still walk down. Lower altitude solves most altitude problems within hours.
What's the accommodation actually like?
2 nights in a comfortable tourist-class hotel in Kathmandu (approx. 3-star, in the Thamel district). 12 nights in trekking lodges run by local families. Lodges vary. Lower down they're well-equipped with comfortable rooms, hot showers and good Wi-Fi; higher up they're more basic, with shared bathrooms outside the building, bucket showers for a small fee, and patchy or no Wi-Fi. It's part of the experience.
Will I have to share a room?
In lodges you'll share a twin room with another trekker of the same sex (couples share). A single supplement is available for the Kathmandu hotel nights. Single rooms aren't generally guaranteed on the trek itself, since lodges have limited capacity. Sheets and blankets are provided but a sleeping bag is still needed (we include one free in our trekking pack hire).
Will I have hot showers and Wi-Fi?
Sometimes. Hot showers are available at most lodges for a small fee. Bucket showers higher up. Wi-Fi is patchy from Namche Bazaar onwards and basically non-existent above Dingboche. Cell coverage drops out too. Most trekkers find the digital detox is one of the best parts. Bring a cheap Nepali SIM in Kathmandu if you want any chance of mobile data on the lower trail.
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
Not unless you want to. We include free trekking pack hire: a down jacket and a sleeping bag rated for the season you're trekking in (normally a paid extra). Bring your own sleeping bag liner if you prefer the extra hygiene layer.
What kind of food will we eat?
Breakfasts are included in Kathmandu. On the trek you pay for your own meals, ordered from your lodge menu each evening and morning. Lodges serve a surprisingly good range: dal bhat (the trekker's staple), pasta, pizza, fried rice, momos, soups, porridge, eggs. Prices go up the higher you climb because porters carry everything in. We politely ask groups not to order too many different items to keep cooking time and fuel use sensible.
Can you cater for vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free diets?
Vegetarian and vegan eating is easy: dal bhat, vegetable curries, momos, and noodles are everywhere and many trekkers find this is the simplest way to eat at altitude anyway. Gluten-free is harder to fully guarantee in remote lodges but workable with planning. Let us know any dietary needs at booking and we'll brief the guide.
Is it safe to drink the water?
Tap and stream water needs treating. You can buy bottled water at lodges, but plastic waste is a serious issue in the Himalayas and the higher you go the worse it gets. We strongly recommend carrying a refillable bottle with a filter (we partner with Water-to-Go) or using purification tablets. Limit alcohol on the trek, since it makes altitude symptoms worse.
Is this trek good for solo travellers?
Yes. A high share of EBC bookings come in solo, and the group bonds quickly when you're walking together through that landscape. Trekking lodges are social spaces where you'll meet other groups, guides and climbers each evening.
What's the group size?
Maximum 12 trekkers, with departures guaranteed from a minimum of 2. For groups of 1-6 we provide one trekking guide plus porters. For groups of 7-12, two guides plus porters. On busy departures we may run parallel groups but they stay independent. Group make-up may flex en-route based on people's natural walking pace.
Can I book this as a private trek?
Yes. The itinerary can run as a private trek on dates of your choosing, with your own guide and porters. Great for families, friend groups, or anyone wanting their own pace. We can also customise the route if you want extra side trips or rest days. Contact us for a quote.
Is this trek suitable for kids?
Our minimum age on group departures is 15 because of the altitude and difficulty. For families with younger children we can run the trek privately with adjusted pacing. Get in touch and we'll talk through whether it's realistic for your kids.
Who else will be on the trip?
Our EBC trekkers are typically in their 20s to 60s, a mix of solos, couples and friend pairs, mostly from the UK, US, Canada, Australia and Europe. Common thread: they've usually done some serious hiking before and want this to be the next big one.
Do I need a visa for Nepal?
Most nationalities (UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, most of the EU) can get a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport, payable in cash. Different durations are available (15, 30 and 90 day options). The 30-day option suits this 15-day tour with extra Kathmandu nights. You can also pre-fill the form online to cut queue time. Check current fees and procedures on the Nepal immigration department website before you fly. Bring 2 passport photos in case you need them for trekking permits.
How should I train for this trek?
Start at least 3-4 months out. Build up to walking 6-8 hours back-to-back days on hills with a daypack. Cardio (running, cycling, swimming) helps too. Carry a weighted pack on training walks. Practice with the boots you'll wear. We send a simple training guide and a fitness questionnaire after booking. Be honest on it, it helps us advise you properly.
What should I pack?
Quality trekking boots (broken in), warm layers including a hat, gloves and a buff, waterproof jacket and trousers, trekking trousers and shirts, t-shirts for lower elevations, a daypack (15-25L), sun hat, sunglasses (UV-rated for altitude), high-SPF sunscreen and lip balm, a refillable water bottle and purification, headtorch, basic first aid, snacks, and a power adapter (Nepal uses 230V, mostly Type C/D/M plugs). Main bag max 12.5kg, Lukla flight luggage limit 10kg main + 5kg hand. Full packing list sent after booking.
Are any vaccinations required?
No vaccinations are legally required for entry, but recommended ones include Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid. A Yellow Fever certificate is required if you're arriving from or transiting through an infected area. Malaria is mainly low-risk in the trekking regions you'll visit. Check with your GP or a travel clinic 6 to 8 weeks before departure.
Do I need to book international flights through you?
No. Your tour starts and ends at Kathmandu airport (KTM) so book whichever flights suit you. We strongly recommend flexible/changeable international tickets because Lukla flight delays can push back your return. We can also arrange flights for you, just ask.
What about tipping?
Tipping is the norm in Nepal trekking, but optional and based on service. Your guide will brief appropriate current amounts at the start of the tour, with separate guidance for the lead guide, assistant guides, porters and drivers. We pay our porters above the local average per IPPG guidelines but tips are still expected and appreciated at the end of the trek.
How much luggage can I bring?
Your porter will carry one main bag with a maximum weight of 12.5kg. One porter usually carries for two trekkers (max 25kg combined). Your daypack is yours to carry. You can leave a second bag locked in the Kathmandu hotel during the trek. Lukla flight limits are stricter: 10kg main + 5kg hand luggage. Extra weight may be held back for the next flight, which can be delayed.
Can I add an Everest mountain flight?
Yes, as a Kathmandu add-on. The Everest Mountain Flight is a short scenic flight that gets you eye-level with Everest and other 8,000m peaks, popular as a back-up plan if Lukla flights have been an issue, or as a bonus before or after the trek.
Can I add a wildlife extension?
Yes. The Bardia National Park Extension is a 4-day add-on with return flights from Kathmandu, 3 nights at a jungle lodge, and the chance to see Bengal tigers, one-horned rhino, gharial crocodiles and wild elephants. Activities (jungle walks, jeep safaris, easy rafting) are paid locally, with current rates shared at booking.
Can I add a cultural experience?
Yes. The Panauti Community Homestay Extension is a 1-night post-tour add-on: a village tour, hands-on Nepalese cooking class, and time with a local family. A great softer landing after the trek.
Can I add white-water rafting?
Yes. Trisuli white-water rafting is available as a Kathmandu add-on, a fun way to break up the recovery days after the trek.
Can I extend my time in Kathmandu?
Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Extra pre-tour Kathmandu nights let you adjust to the time zone and explore the city. Extra post-tour nights protect you against Lukla flight delays back to Kathmandu, since even a single weather day can mean missing your international flight home. Both are available as paid add-ons.
How far ahead should I book?
Peak season departures (October-November, March-April) regularly sell out 4-6 months ahead. Late September and early December have more availability. Lukla flights and Kathmandu hotels also fill up earlier in peak season, so the sooner you lock dates, the better choice of international flights.
How does booking work?
Reserve your spot online via the Dates & Prices tab: deposit, full payment, or hold a reservation. Full balance is due 8 weeks before departure. Pay by debit/credit card, bank transfer, or cheque. You'll get instant booking confirmation and a pre-departure pack with the training guide, packing list and fitness questionnaire.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, it's compulsory and not optional. Your policy must cover medical treatment, emergency evacuation (including helicopter rescue), and repatriation up to the altitudes reached on this trek (over 5,000m at Kala Patthar). Trip cancellation cover is also strongly recommended. We partner with World Nomads, who cover over 150 adventure activities and high-altitude trekking. Send us your policy number before departure. Without it you can't join the tour.
What's your cancellation policy?
Cancel well ahead of departure for a refund of payments made. Closer-in cancellations attract fees on a sliding scale. Full terms are in our booking conditions, sent at reservation. Encounters Travel is UK-registered with financial protection via Trust My Travel. Your payments are covered in the event of company failure.
What happens if Lukla flights are cancelled at the start of the trek?
On the rare occasion that the Kathmandu-Lukla flight is delayed by more than a day or two at the start, we'll offer an alternative trek route, normally in the Annapurna region. At the end of the trek, weather delays can extend your stay in Lukla. This is why we recommend an extra post-tour Kathmandu night and flexible international flights. Any extra accommodation/transport costs due to weather delays may not be refundable, which is what your travel insurance is for.

Dec 01, 2019
We used Encounters Travel as the organizer for our Dec 2019 Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal. They handled everything from the flight booking to the airport shuttle to the guide/porter arrangements. Their planning was well organized which allowed us to focus solely on getting through the physical challenges of the trek.
We were booked on Qatar Air which was nice for our 30+ hours of traveling each way. The hotel they had booked for us in Kathmandu was clean and comfortable with a very nice staff (and great location). Lastly, the guide & porter for our trek were absolutely fantastic. Dipesh (our guide) was professional and took time each day to discuss how we were feeling and address any concerns or questions that we had. I honestly do not think we would have made it to Base Camp if not for the expertise of Dipesh.
Encounters Travel made this trek much less stressful than it could have been, and on a trek that is stressful & difficult by its very nature, that was a relief. I don't often book travel with a tour company, but I will likely be coming back to Encounters Travel in the future. HIGHLY recommended.

Accommodation

The hotels and accommodations listed below are the ones we most often use on this tour. From time to time we may exchange these for similar properties at the same level.

Options

Our tours are designed to include all that you need to enjoy a really special time in the country you're visiting. However, we do also offer some extra options to complement the tour and add some additional sightseeing or activities, or some extra time at either end of the tour.

All accommodation based options (e.g. Single supplements, extra nights, upgrades) should be booked and paid for in advance so that we can make the appropriate arrangements. Most other options can be booked and paid for in advance or while you are on the tour, though we recommend booking in advance to ensure there are no issues with availability.

Most options are priced the same throughout the year, though some may have seasonal pricing or minimum number requirements - our sales team will advise the final pricing based on your travel date and number of passengers on your booking.

Tour Notes

The detailed Tour Notes below provide important practical information about how the tour runs, what to expect, and how to prepare for your holiday.

1. Accommodation

  1. Hotels in Kathmandu
We use comfortable tourist class hotels in Kathmandu (approx. 3 star).
  1. Trekking with lodges
For this lodge-based trek, we will use a variety of Lodges and Teahouses. In recent years many new lodges have sprung up and many offer quite good facilities and amenities.  However, in some areas the lodges can be run on a very simple basis where toilets and washing facilities are outside the building. We can’t promise that you will always have full amenities all the time, so you should understand this before embarking on this trek.

Staying in lodges gives you more comfort overnight than camping, and also allows you to meet up with and talk with other trekkers and guides at the end of the day. It also allows us to put more back into the local economies than if we were bringing everything with us.

Rooms in lodges are normally based on same sex sharing of twin rooms (though couples will be able to share).  Some sheets & blankets are provided but a sleeping bag is still required. We provide the option to hire a sleeping bag in our trekking pack option, though you may still wish to bring your own inner sleeping bag liner or sleep sheet if you wish.  Warm showers are available for a small fee at most lodges, though these may be bucket showers higher up.

Please check the Single Room Supplement option for details on room sharing options and charges for solo travellers on this tour.
